PORTFOLIO

Noyo Forestry provides tree care, forestry, vegetation management, wildfire fuel reduction, emergency response, right-of-way maintenance, and heavy equipment services throughout California’s North Coast. Our experience ranges from commercial tree care and emergency response to large-scale fuel reduction, forest road clearing, railroad right-of-way maintenance, and infrastructure projects throughout Mendocino County and beyond.

JACKSON DEMONSTRATION STATE FOREST

Fort Bragg, Mendocino County

At approximately 48,652 acres, Jackson Demonstration State Forest is California's largest demonstration state forest and one of the most significant publicly managed working forests in the North Coast redwood region.

Managed by CAL FIRE, the forest serves as a working environment for forest-management research and demonstration while supporting watershed protection, wildlife habitat, recreation, timber production, and long-term forest resilience.

Noyo Forestry completed 30 miles of roadside brushing and vegetation treatment throughout the forest to improve fire access and reduce roadside fuel loading.

The project involved clearing encroaching brush and vegetation along an extensive network of forest roads, helping maintain access for firefighting, forestry operations, resource management, and other activities throughout the nearly 49,000-acre forest.

Services: Roadside brushing • Fire-access improvement • Fuel reduction • Vegetation management • Forest road clearing

CALIFORNIA WESTERN RAILROAD

Fort Bragg & Willits, Mendocino County

The California Western Railroad, today operated by Mendocino Railway and widely known as the Skunk Train, is a historic approximately 40-mile railroad connecting Fort Bragg and Willits through the redwood forests of Mendocino County.

The railroad traces its history to 1885, when the original Fort Bragg Railroad was established to support the region's timber industry. The line later developed into the California Western Railroad and became an important transportation route through the remote interior of Mendocino County.

Noyo Forestry provides emergency tree response, vegetation management, and right-of-way maintenance along this unique and challenging rail corridor.

Our work has included removal of fallen and hazardous trees, right-of-way clearing, hand cutting, vegetation control, chipping, and mechanical mastication.

Many portions of the railroad are isolated from conventional road access. To reach these areas, Noyo Forestry has performed mechanical vegetation treatment using equipment transported and operated from railroad flatcars, allowing vegetation-management work to be completed along otherwise inaccessible portions of the right-of-way.

The combination of remote terrain, railroad operations, limited access, and heavy vegetation makes this work considerably different from conventional roadside or commercial vegetation management.

Services: Emergency tree response • Railroad right-of-way maintenance • Hazard tree removal • Hand cutting • Mastication • Chipping • Vegetation management • Remote-access operations

POWERS FORESTRY

El Cerrito, Contra Costa County

Noyo Forestry served as the field operations subcontractor to Powers Forestry for a grant-funded, 9-acre eucalyptus fuel-reduction project for the City of El Cerrito.

The project involved the removal and treatment of dense eucalyptus to reduce hazardous fuel loading and improve wildfire resilience. Trees were removed primarily through ground-based falling, using a combination of directional falling techniques, tree jacks, and excavator-assisted pulling. Limited climbing was utilized where necessary to safely remove trees located near structures and other site constraints.

Excavators were used extensively for material handling and processing throughout the project. Oversized logs that could not be processed directly through the chipper were split using a excavator mounted log screw, allowing the material to be reduced to a size that could be chipped.

All removed woody material was processed into chips. A portion of the chips was broadcast across designated areas of the project for erosion control and ground protection, while the remaining material was loaded and hauled off site to a biomass facility.

The project combined technical tree falling, mechanical material handling, large-capacity chipping, trucking, and biomass management to complete a large-scale wildfire fuel-reduction treatment in a developed urban environment.

Services: Eucalyptus removal • Wildfire fuel reduction • Ground falling • Tree-jack assisted falling • Excavator-assisted falling • Technical climbing • Mechanical material handling • Log splitting • Large-capacity chipping • Erosion-control material placement • Biomass hauling

PARKER TEN MILE RANCH

Fort Bragg, Mendocino County

Parker Ten Mile Ranch encompasses approximately 2,554 acres of working forest along the Ten Mile River near Fort Bragg. The property is protected by a working-forest conservation easement established to preserve open space, fish and wildlife habitat, watershed values, and sustainable timber production.

Through the North Bay Forest Improvement Program (NBFIP), Noyo Forestry completed a 38-acre shaded fuel break on the ranch to improve forest health and wildfire resilience.

The forestry prescription called for the removal of trees generally under 8 inches in diameter to establish appropriate spacing, along with pruning and limbing retained trees to reduce vertical ladder fuels.

Crews performed hand cutting throughout the project area. On steep slopes where mechanical access was impractical, cut material was lopped and scattered in accordance with the project prescription. Throughout the remaining treatment area, woody material was machine piled for later burning.

The completed treatment created a more open forest structure designed to reduce surface and ladder fuels, improve spacing, and increase wildfire resilience while retaining the larger forest overstory.

Services: Shaded fuel-break construction • Forest thinning • Small-tree removal • Hand cutting • Limbing • Ladder-fuel reduction • Lop and scatter • Machine piling • Burn-pile preparation

MENDOCINO COUNTY FIRE SAFE COUNCIL

Mendocino Coast & Anderson Valley

Noyo Forestry serves as the Mendocino County Fire Safe Council's contractor for the Mendocino Coast, supporting community wildfire-prevention and fuel-reduction programs throughout the region.

Our work includes grant-funded roadside fuel-reduction projects, including projects funded through PG&E, along corridors such as Comptche-Ukiah Road, Sky Ranch Road, Hibbard Road, Docker Hill, and Albion Ridge Road.

These projects have included roadside vegetation removal, tree and brush cutting, chipping, fuel reduction, and vegetation management around private utility infrastructure.

Noyo Forestry also provides crews and equipment for Fire Safe Council Chipper Days, helping residents dispose of vegetation generated through defensible-space and wildfire-preparation work.

Our ongoing role with the Fire Safe Council allows us to support projects across a large portion of Mendocino County, ranging from individual community Chipper Days to larger roadside fuel-reduction projects.

Services: Roadside fuel reduction • Chipping • Tree and brush removal • Utility corridor clearing • Defensible-space support • Community Chipper Days • Wildfire mitigation

MYERS & SONS CONSTRUCTION

Westport, Mendocino County

Noyo Forestry supported Myers & Sons Construction during emergency and erosion-control work along the Highway 1 corridor at Blues Beach, providing heavy transportation, material hauling, equipment transport, and vegetation-processing services in support of the Caltrans project.

Using our lowbed, flatbed, and end-dump trailers, Noyo Forestry transported construction materials and equipment to and from the project, including K-rail, pipe, riprap, and large erosion-control boulders weighing up to 10 tons each. Our lowbed operations also provided transportation for heavy construction equipment required on the project.

Noyo Forestry also performed vegetation processing and chipping within highway turnouts using our Bandit 20XP tracked chipper and excavator. Processed wood chips were loaded and hauled for use as erosion-control material, allowing woody material generated by the work to be beneficially reused on the project.

The work required coordination within an active highway construction environment and the ability to provide transportation and vegetation-management services along a remote section of the Mendocino Coast.

Services: Heavy equipment transport • Lowbed hauling • Flatbed hauling • End-dump hauling • K-rail and pipe transport • Riprap and boulder hauling • Heavy construction material transport • Chipping • Excavator operations • Biomass hauling • Erosion-control support
